DownloadChief Karin Montejo has a career full of achievements, honors and awards for her service to the law enforcement community and the people of Miami-Dade County. Here are a few of her career achievements.
Established the Sexual Crimes Clearinghouse (SCCH) in the tri-county area. During the year 2000, over 2500 cases were researched with 33 local law enforcement agencies participating. The SCCH received the National Association of Counties (NACO) in June 2002.
Initiated the use of the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer (CVSA) within the Miami-Dade Police Department. The analyzer is currently used throughout all major crimes units.
Directed the pilot project for the purchase of Gamma Ray equipment for the Stolen Auto Theft Recovery System (STAR) at the Port of Miami.
Developed the Sexual Crimes Basic Guide for Law Enforcement Personnel to assist units in proper response to sexual crimes victims. This form has been distributed to Miami-Dade Police Department uniformed officers, as well as municipalities in Miami-Dade County.
Designed and implemented the entrepreneurial course for female law enforcement officers entitled, “Women in Policing: Meeting the Challenge of Leadership.”
Initiated the establishment of the Domestic Violence Clearinghouse, providing a centralized database for domestic violence reports occurring in surrounding municipalities in Miami-Dade County.
Devised the Missing and Abducted Persons (MAP) vehicle equipped with computers, facsimile machines, copiers, and a portable video screen, for immediate mobile response to missing persons scenes.
Established liaison between Miami-Dade Police Department, Project Life Saver, and Alzheimer’s Association to provide various identifiers/locaters for Alzheimer patients who wander from their residence.
Received “Breaking the Glass Ceiling” Award from the National Center for Women in Policing, April 2002, Washington, D.C.
Received “In the Company of Women” Award from Miami-Dade County for outstanding achievement.
